Do you know the five parts of a handle lock?

Jun 12, 2025

When we buy indoor door locks, handle locks are indispensable. They are widely used in indoor doors. Because of their wide range of uses, they are one of the most diverse types of door locks. However, as users, most of us only pay attention to the brand and appearance of the door locks, and know very little about the internal structure of the handle locks.
In fact, if we properly understand the structure and composition of the handle lock, it will be very helpful for purchasing good quality door locks, as well as for future use and maintenance. Now, please take a look at the structure diagram of the indoor handle lock with me.
Part I: Handle
Handle, also known as door handle, is made of zinc alloy, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, plastic, log, ceramic, etc. The commonly used door handles on the market are now made of zinc alloy. Due to its excellent plasticity, it can be designed into a variety of shapes and colors, and some special shapes can be made on it.
Part II: Panel
The lock is divided into a door lock or a door lock based on the length and width of the panel, so the panel is also a very important factor when purchasing. Door panels vary in size. Choose locks based on the size of the openings in the wooden door. Before buying, we must also clarify the thickness of the door at home. The general thickness of the door is 38-45mm. Special thickened doors require special door locks.
The material and thickness of the panel are very important. The use of high-quality materials can prevent the panel from deforming, and the electroplating process can prevent rust and spots.
The third part: lock body
The lock body is the core of a lock, the key part and the core part. It is generally divided into a single-tongue lock body and a double-tongue lock body. The basic composition is: shell, main part, lining, door catch, plastic box and screw accessories. The materials used in the five parts are also different. The lock body shell is generally made of iron galvanized sheet, which does not require electroplating; the main body is generally made of zinc alloy and high-quality iron; the lining is made of stainless steel and copper, and many brands have company logos here; the door catch is made of stainless steel, stainless iron and copper.
There are two types of lock bodies: single-tongue lock bodies and double-tongue lock bodies. Single-tongue lock bodies generally have only one oblique tongue, and there are two specifications: 50 and 1500px. This size refers to the distance from the lining plate to the middle hole of the square hole of the lock body. Single-tongue lock bodies are the most convenient to install. Generally, masters will choose single-tongue locks because they are afraid of trouble. Therefore, they are used the most in engineering, but they are the most unreliable and can be easily damaged. Double-tongue lock bodies include oblique tongues and square tongues. A good square tongue is made of tungsten steel bars and carbon steel to prevent the lock body from being damaged by **. It has better anti-theft performance and is more time-consuming to install. The larger the lock body, the more expensive it is. Multifunctional lock bodies are generally used to lock the main door. They have good anti-theft performance and are very expensive. The lock body is the functional part of a lock and is also the most critical part. Generally, if the lock is broken, it is most likely caused by the lock body.
Part 4: Lock core
The lock core is the main part that controls the opening of the lock. It is the heart of the lock. It refers to the core part that can rotate and drive the bolt to move when matched with the key. It is generally divided into five types: large gourd, small gourd, fake gourd, angle key, and large lock series.
The material and craftsmanship of the lock core have a great impact on the lock. The lock core of the mortise lock generally adopts a marble structure. The more marbles, the more anti-theft. The first marble and the last marble are used for positioning. The middle marble is used as a code. The more marbles in the middle, the lower the mutual opening rate.
The lock core is preferably made of copper material. Now many of them are made of zinc alloy, even aluminum alloy or plastic on the market. The cost is much lower, but it is easy to damage. Domestic first-line brands such as Tiannu, Huitailong, Yajie, etc. all use copper materials to make lock cores. After 200,000 life and load index tests, they ensure a normal service life of more than 10 years and meet the national highest fire protection level requirements.
Part 5: Accessories
Accessories are an organic part of a lock. We all know that a thousand-mile dam can be breached by an ant hole. A small accessory can ruin a precision machine, and the small accessories in a lock are also very important.
